A third of Linzers work away from home - Luger is calling for more buses

More than 109,000 people currently come to Linz to work. The state capital is not just a city of commuters; around a third of Linz’s workforce commutes from Linz. That’s more than 33,000 people. In the last 40 years this value has almost quadrupled. Luger therefore calls for greater focus on commuters when planning and organizing public transport. Regional bus routes to the surrounding communities should operate more frequently in the morning and evening peaks. “The majority of the ever-increasing number of commuters work in professional sectors that are not suitable for home office or remote work,” says Luger, who suggests a needs study by the state transport department.

Eleven percent commute to Vienna

Most commuters work in the Linz-Land district (43%), followed at a distance by Wels Stadt (7.2%) and Wels-Land (6.2%), Urfahr-Environment (5.9%) and Perg ( 2.6%). Most Linzers work in Leonding, followed by Wels, Traun, Pasching, Ansfelden, Hörsching, St. Florian and Enns. Eleven percent of Linzers who commute work in Vienna.
