The big Miss Belgium beauty contest takes place this Saturday evening at the Proximus Théâtre de la Panne. It is at this place that a strong police presence was noticed at the end of the afternoon.
According to the Nieuwsblad, a man with a gun in his pocket and another in his Tesla brand rental car was arrested.
The Limburg police would have been made aware of the intentions of the man by intercepting the message of his companion.
“The man was arrested with a weapon in his pocket and a weapon in his vehicle,” said Eric Van Der Sypt of the federal prosecutor’s office, to our colleagues. “He wanted to carry out an attack. He wanted to do something that could have ended very badly”, he confides without giving further details except that he also had a bulletproof vest.
The majority of the guests were not present at the time of the police intervention. Those who arrived around 6:30 p.m. were still asked to leave the room so that the police could sift the room.
The organization of the event has decided to maintain the beauty contest. However, it will start late.
