“AB InBev Scandal: Exposing the Watered Down Beer Conspiracy Behind the Stella Brewery in Leuven”

2023-05-11 08:12:00

As revealed by our colleagues at Het Laatste Nieuws, AB InBev conducted an internal investigation following customers of the Belgian market leader, in Belgium and abroad, complained that water was coming out of beer kegs. from the Stella brewery in Leuven.

They quickly realized that the problem was not in the production process or even in the distribution center. They very quickly identified that the problems were with kegs of Stella and found that the kegs were damaged, coming to the conclusion that someone had emptied them before refilling them with water.

And by checking the driver’s GPS, AB InBev realized that the latter was still stopping at the warehouse of a drinks merchant in Zaventem and Grimbergen, reveal our colleagues. The police thus carried out searches and found caps of beer barrels at the address of the driver and that of the merchant.

The modus operandi was always the same. The driver was going to load his truck in Leuven before changing the loading code. He then went to his brewer friend where they pumped out the beer and replaced it with water. The driver then took his load to the AB InBev site, reporting that he had brought the wrong trailer. During this time, the trader resold the stolen beer to his customers and both shared the profit.

In total, 30,000 barrels of beer have been recalled as a precaution and the driver and his friend risk having to reimburse more than 1.4 million euros, in addition to the prison sentence they incur.
