AB InBev states in a reaction “regret the action“led by international unions in front of its headquarters in Louvain. The brewing giant, however, reaffirms”the importance it places on social dialogue with its employees and their representatives in all the markets where it operates“. Some 200 people gathered on Saturday to protest against the management of the group’s personnel.

AB Inbev first recognizes the local identity of the brewing industry, “which creates value and employment for local communities“. The brewer highlights, in a press release, the growth of its market share in Belgium and Germany over recent years, “despite the decline in beer consumption in general“The group, however, refutes criticism that it does not care enough about its employees in Belgium.”Brewery workers in Belgium are among the highest paid workers in the entire food industry and the workforce has remained stable since the start of 2023“, he assures.

In Germany, layoffs are indeed expected, admits AB Inbev. “Against the backdrop of rising costs, changing consumer needs and a shrinking beer market as a whole, the decision to eliminate one of Issum’s two bottling lines (where the Diebels factory is located, Editor’s note) was necessary. We have worked, together with workers and the works council, on how the proposed changes can be implemented in the most socially acceptable way possible.“, concludes the brewer.
