Zurich (awp) – The Zurich electrical engineering conglomerate ABB plans to inject 280 million dollars (nearly 250 million Swiss francs at today’s rate) to expand its capacities in Sweden. The project is part of the strategy of bringing together production and outlets. It notably includes the erection of a robotics campus in Västeras, on the outskirts of the capital Stockholm.

“Our new campus in Sweden will be built where ABB Robotics was founded (…) almost 50 years ago,” underlines Marc Segura, head of the Robotics unit, quoted in the press release released on Wednesday. The new installations, spread over 65,000 m2, will replace the old ones.

The commissioning of the future workplace for the 1,300 employees of the current site is scheduled for the end of 2026 and should make it possible to increase robotic production capacities on the Old Continent by half.

The European investment chapter follows significant investments already made in China and the United States, for a total envelope of $450 million since 2018.
