Abdi Waluyo Hospital presents Water Vapor Therapy for benign prostate enlargement. This was conveyed in a media briefing on Thursday (28/3) at the Des Indes Hotel, Menteng, Jakarta, by the CEO of Abdi Waluyo Hospital, Dr Roswin Rosnim Djaafar MARS.

“Abdi Waluyo Hospital is committed to being a leader in providing technology for health problems in Indonesia,” said Roswin.

Before introducing Water Vapor Therapy technology, Abdi Waluyo Hospital Urology Specialist Dr Adistra Iman Satjakoesoemah SpU FICS explained that benign prostate enlargement is a disease when the prostate grows to an abnormal size.

There are several symptoms that occur in this disease, such as having to urinate at night, urine does not come out even when you feel the urge to urinate, and urine flows weakly.

Benign prostate enlargement generally occurs in a man’s fifth decade. Therefore, Adistra reminded men who are 50 years old to have a prostate examination, even if they have no symptoms.

“The sooner it is treated, the sooner life expectancy and so on will increase,” said Adistira.

Before Water Vapor Therapy technology existed, this disease was treated in two ways, namely administering medication or definitive surgery. However, giving medication does not cure, only relieves.

Adistira also said that most of his patients who use prostate medication complain of ejaculation and orgasm problems.

“The side effects are not too serious, they just disrupt the quality of life, especially sexual quality,” he said.

“Taking medication can’t produce ejaculation, the psychological effect is domino,” he continued.

Meanwhile, most cases of surgery, explained Adistira, have the side effect of permanent ejaculation disorders. “In people who have prostate surgery, almost 80 percent of their ejaculation is definitely disturbed.”

Therefore, he said that Water Vapor Thermal Therapy, which does not have many side effects, is the best choice. This procedure, Adistira said, is also very useful for patients who cannot accept the risks of surgery.

“So (Water Vapor Thermal Therapy) is for patients who are especially afraid of surgery, then if they want something simple,” he said.

This therapy is carried out by injecting the prostate with Transurethral Needle Ablation (TUNA) which sprays hot steam. This hot steam will also cause widespread prostate cell death. However, Adistira stated that there is time until the prostate shrinks again.

“But once again, water vapor therapy doesn’t work instantly, after 1 to 3 months he will need follow-up, but around the first month to the third month he feels really good, urinating smoothly,” concluded Adistira.

“So to avoid the side effects of surgery and medication, in the middle there is water vapor therapy,” he added. (Z-6)
