His return to Senegal had been considered during the campaign which ends this Friday evening, July 29, then deferred. But this time it’s the right one, says Mamadou Lamine Thiam, campaign director for the Wallu Senegal coalition: Abdoulaye Wade, 96, is expected in Dakar this Saturday from Paris. ” We were waiting for the president, you know, I announced it, the president will be there, this Saturday, to vote, he is coming to vote. I had confirmation of what has been announced since the beginning of the campaign. Inshallah he will be there “, he hopes.

« It’s good news “, and the fact that he returns ” after the end of the campaign is easier to manage, for contacts, in view of the Covid pandemic-19,” said a coalition official.

Wallu Senegal has concluded an electoral alliance with the main opposition coalition Yewwi Askan Wi –led by Ousmane Sonko-, for the legislative elections. But Abdoulaye Wade, head of the national Wallu list, will not sit in the Assembly if elected, according to Mamadou Lamine Diallo, coordinator of the coalition.

His return to the country is in any case an event for his supporters. The last public appearance of the former president in Dakar was in October 2019: a meeting at the Palace with his successor and now opponent, President Macky Sall.
