Walayar ∙ An attempt was made to abduct a three-year-old boy who was playing in the backyard of Kanchikote, Palakkad. In connection with this, Salem Athur Ammanpalayam Senthilkumar (47) was arrested by the Walayar police. The incident took place at 7:30 pm on Saturday. Senthil tried to kidnap the 3-year-old son of Khurshit and Salma from Uttar Pradesh. Senthil was caught by locals and autorickshaw drivers on his way to Kanchikode railway station with the child. He was later handed over to the police.
Khurshit, a Kanchikode iron and steel company worker, and his family had been living in a rented house in Kanchikode East Room, a guest worker colony, for nearly 10 years. Senthilkumar reached the east room in the afternoon and stayed there for several hours. The child who was playing in the backyard was given chocolate first. Making sure people’s attention was diverted, he held the child’s hand and walked away.
Later, Kanchikod reached Satrapadi and asked Kanchikod to take an auto to the railway station. This time the child was not burned. But when he realized that the boy was the son of a guest worker but Senthilkumar was speaking in Tamil, the suspicious auto driver called more people. Later, the police also reached the spot.
He was then taken into custody. After the medical examination, the accused was arrested. Inspector Adam Khan informed that the police are interrogating him who was under the influence of alcohol and need to be more specific.
