Aboubacar Soumah: “The country cannot belong to unelected people”

The president of the Guinea for Development and Balance (GDE) party spoke to our colleagues at FIM FM, this Thursday, May 4, 2023. Aboubacar Soumah spoke about the call to demonstrate launched by the Forces vives de Guinée .

Faced with the refusal of the CNRD to meet their demands, the political leader in exile maintains that the Forces Vives no longer have a choice but to resort to peaceful marches.

“You have found that we have exhausted all our avenues of appeal. The ECOWAS authorities, the moral authorities, the women have intervened several times so that there is an inclusive, transparent and fair dialogue to bring us out of this transition period in peace, national unity, harmony and tranquility. Unfortunately, the government and the CNRD do not hear of this ear. They want to go by force, lies, intimidation. We are going to resort to peaceful demonstrations throughout the national territory and even outside the country where there are major chancelleries so that national and international opinion know that what is happening in Guinea is not the will of the people”, hammered the former deputy to the National Assembly.

As long as the right to demonstrate is enshrined in the Transition Charter, Aboubacar Soumah believes that the Forces Vives have the right to use it. “The freedom to demonstrate is enshrined, they cannot ban a law that provides for something by a simple press release. It’s impossible. We will use these means to make ourselves heard. In any case, the country does not belong to a group of men. Nor can the country belong to unelected people who have come to seize power by using force, by wanting to impose their will on the country, which is not within the framework of the law”.

For Soumah “it’s bad faith”, to think that the street demonstrations will negatively impact the progress of the transition schedule. “It’s bad faith. We are starting these peaceful demonstrations so that the authorities of the transition understand that a political transition can only be achieved peacefully by consensus. May all the people of Guinea be together so that we can get out of this transition which has lasted too long. We ask all activists and sympathizers to mobilize to mark a total success in these demonstrations.
