(CNN) Northern European vodka manufacturer Absolut Vodka has announced that it will once again suspend product exports to Russia by the 22nd.

A spokesperson for the company’s parent company, Pernod Ricard, confirmed to CNN. The company suspended vodka exports to Russia after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began.

However, at the end of last year, it resumed exports of some of its brand products, including Absolut, but this caused a backlash in Sweden.

Absolut’s CEO said in a recent statement that developments in Sweden over the past few days clearly reflected the role the company’s products play in the country’s broader community, adding that the company’s exports to Russia have been underway. He said he decided to stop exporting.

He said that international sanctions and local legal restrictions have significantly reduced business activities in Russia and halted investments in market research and development. He also defended Pernod Ricard’s resumption of exports to ensure business continuity through limited supplies.

But he said the company has a responsibility to be mindful of the environment in which its employees and partners are placed and “cannot expose them to any form of large-scale criticism.”
