Doha: Abu Zamra border is ready to receive the fans who cross the border. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani visited the border area, which has completed construction and is ready to allow more vehicles to cross at the same time. The Prime Minister inspected the preparations in progress at the land border of Qatar, Abu Zamra Land Crossing, and the expansion of the border check post to receive pilgrims arriving via Saudi Arabia. The Prime Minister visited all the halls and state-of-the-art technology facilities to receive fans, guests and visitors. The officials also briefed the prime minister about the safety and security measures at the Abu Samra border.
A team of senior officials also accompanied the Prime Minister. The Abu Zamra border is being renovated with more than double capacity in view of the World Cup rush. With the completion of the construction works, the capacity of passing passengers will increase by two times. Eng. Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi informed. It will increase from the current nine lanes to 24. Ahmed Abdullah Al Jamal, Chairman of the General Authority of Customs, said that the border expansion works will benefit not only the movement during the World Cup in Qatar, but also the strong transactions in the cargo and commercial sectors with the neighboring countries in the following days. The passenger terminal at the border has been completed with an area of 10,000 square meters. It can handle 4000 people entering and leaving Qatar in an hour.
