After 9 months of the beheading of the Access Condorproduct of a storm, the Department of Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism chose the architect and sculptor Orlando Leytes to be in charge of to restore the iconic figure.
Orlando Leytes is a 38-year-old who, although he studied architecture, is dedicated to sculpture. The manager of the restoration of Condor spoke on MDZ radio to tell how the arrangement of the monument will be.
Leytes assured that the beheading of the Condor “It was a set of various things, the material was not prepared to be out in the open, but it lasted a long time because it was well done.”
Another factor that had an impact on the beheading of the Condor is that the body and the head of the monument “did not have a good structural anchorage. If it had had the same structure, it would have remained as if hanging”.
The work is expected to begin on December 15 and will last 5 months. For the repair of CondorLeytes has 10 million pesos.
For the restorationLeytes explained that work will be done on the monument itself “in situ”, but when it comes to repairing the head, it will be done at home.
Leytes plans to replace the most damaged parts and reinforce the ones that are in good condition. In addition, he said that he used materials found in the province to avoid costs and loss of time.
