A van drove into the Arts-Loi tunnel in Brussels, which was closed due to work in progress, on Monday around 2 a.m., the Brussels-Capital/Ixelles police zone said. The vehicle, with four people on board, collided with an aerial platform where four workers were working. Three of them were injured, two slightly and one seriously.

The four occupants of the van, also injured, were arrested and an investigation is being carried out, according to the police.

The work which was in progress during the night from Sunday to Monday in the Arts-Loi tunnel took place at the entrance to it. The passage was therefore prohibited and signaled upstream.

Our colleagues from The last news reported the words of Dimitri Strobbe, director of the Brussels Mobility maintenance service. He explains that the van drove at 100 kilometers per hour in the obstruction of the Arts-Loi tunnel. Strobbe writes on X (the former Twitter, Editor’s note), that the people in question were under the influence of drugs. Information which has not been confirmed by the Brussels-Capital Ixelles police zone. “The investigation will now have to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, in particular the speed at which the van was traveling, and whether the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” police sources said. This, again according to information from The last news.
