At around 5:45 p.m., the 55-year-old from Vienna was still shopping in the supermarket in Bad Wimsbach. Back in the car, he wanted to stow a drink bottle in the back of the vehicle when it happened. He must have accidentally stepped on the gas pedal because the car crashed head-on into the supermarket.
The force of the impact was so great that the outside wall of the store was crushed, causing a shelf inside the store to be torn from its anchorage and toppled over. A 45-year-old man who was out shopping was hit in the shin area by the falling shelf. He was slightly injured. The driver of the vehicle should have remained unharmed, according to a police spokesman in an interview with nachrichten.at.
