Ace Attorney Game Review: A Look at the Chinese Version 4-6 and Tips for New Players

It’s an old Chinese-cultured game, and there shouldn’t be anything more to write about. But I happen to love this series very much, and have never written about this game on unwire, so I would like to take this opportunity to share my thoughts on this game over the years.

“I have an objection” review

“Manghen” prompted me to buy a PSP, and “Ace Attorney” was the opportunity for me to buy an NDS. This may only be deeply understood by original NDS players. In the past, most of us played the Japanese version. However, these mystery games require complete language understanding to enjoy, so many players (including me) have begun to engage in Chinese culture. This is a ” Bad player” behavior is obvious. After Chineseization, although the Japanese voice is still retained, the classic line “Objection あり” has become a childhood memory for many players. Later, Capcom released a Chinese version of 1-3 and changed the dubbing from “Objection あり” to “Objection”. Although I may be a little biased, I think the quality of the Chinese dub is nowhere near as good as the Japanese version, which was the main drawback of the last Chinese-language compilation. This time, collections 4-6 use separate options for system text and dubbing, allowing players to choose to use Japanese voices.

In fact, 1-4 is a 2D game, so the process of localization on NDS is relatively simple. However, 5-6 is a 3D game and has been ported to the 3DS platform, which complicates the “Chinese” process for Bad Players. I believe that most players will eventually play the English version on iOS or PC, so this time the 4-6 Chinese culture has fulfilled a long-held wish for many old players. From these aspects, I think this Chinese version of “Ace Attorney” 4-6 is designed for veteran players.

Help newbies avoid getting stuck

If you insist on not reading the walkthrough of the original “Ace Attorney”, you may get stuck in certain scenes, such as missing some details during the investigation process, making it impossible to move forward. You can’t try to click everywhere on the screen randomly, because there may be a dialogue in the middle. If the dialogue is long, you need to read every word carefully, which will cost the player a lot of time.

The new version adds a “tick” indicator to let you know you’ve investigated without having to click again, and you can quickly skip unread conversations, which saves time. Episodes 5-6 of “Ace Attorney” have added a hint puzzle function to help new players avoid getting stuck. In addition, you can also turn on a “review” function during the trial. This function will provide some tips. If you are still stuck, You can also select “Story” mode in the menu to let the game automatically solve puzzles, allowing players to enjoy the development of the story like an audience. This new mode is actually introduced from Ace Attorney. I believe these thoughtful new features can make newcomers more engaged in the game’s story.

Do newbies need to play 1-3 episodes?

Frankly speaking, if you are a new player and are lucky enough to read this article, I strongly recommend that you play episodes 1 – 3 first. Although the Chinese version cannot choose the original Japanese soundtrack, episodes 1-3 are the real value of “Ace Attorney”. The story with Phoenix Phoenix as the protagonist is written and directed by Takumi and is composed of multiple short stories. The story is intertwined with a big case, some seemingly unrelated small things will eventually be connected together, and the character’s background story will also be related to the big case.

This kind of foreshadowing and connection, as well as character background characterization, are difficult to see again in episodes 4-6, while episodes 1-3 focus more on case solving and character motivations. Episodes 4-6 put more emphasis on character growth, but the intensity of the case is not as high as 1-3. The new systems introduced in episodes 4-6, such as observing small details, bring freshness but have nothing to do with puzzle-solving thinking. In the court trial, the duels in episodes 4-6 are also more “tough”, which is different from the players’ reasoning and event analysis in episodes 1-3.

In episodes 4-6, new evidence or testimony sometimes appears due to “luck”, and the players seem to be more like viewers, just watching the characters grow rather than helping them solve the case. Despite this, I still think episodes 4-6 are must-plays. Although the cases and plot design are not as good as 1-3, the growth of various old characters in the story is still very attractive. The only complaint is that Phoenix seemed to be a retired master in the fourth episode, but became like a novice in the fifth and sixth episodes, often “sweating” during the trial.

I think the first chapter of the fourth episode is very good. It retains the characteristics of episodes 1-3 while also bringing new experiences to the players. The stories in the subsequent chapters are also good, but there are too many details to observe. I think Episode 5 is the worst episode in the entire Ace Attorney series, but there are some surprises in terms of DLC. Although many old players complained about the last episode, the case design and Huang Nixi’s background story were excellent, and the resistance under the new country and law also added a freshness to the entire story. I think the new team is not as good as Qiaozhou in terms of story foreshadowing and structure, but some “unrealistic” puzzle-solving techniques, such as time travel and spiritual power, are very attractive. In short, except for the fifth episode, which requires a little more patience from the player, the other two episodes will not disappoint the player.

The author is also looking forward to the Chinese version of Ace Attorney, which is full of slow, engaging stories and contains old English (which is also very attractive). But for people who are not very good at English, this may also become a small drawback.
