Act of malice: Barbed wire spread on popular hiking trail

Yesterday, cut pieces of barbed wire were discovered over a stretch of around 70 meters on the popular hiking trail between Kronberg and Hongar near Hohe Luft in the border area of the four communities of Aurach, Altmünster, Pinsdorf and Regau. The sharp parts of the fence had been placed there by an unknown person – possibly to deter cyclists who were supposedly traveling here without permission.

What the person responsible for this immense danger to life and limb did not take into account is the question of liability if a mountain biker falls and injures himself as a result of this rash act. “Of course, this not only means danger for cyclists and hikers, but especially for children and animals,” points out the walker who discovered the pieces of barbed wire and reported it to the Gmunden police. He also witnessed how a mountain biker, who had ridden over this extremely questionable trap but fortunately did not fall, had to push his bike along with two flat tires. According to reports, there is no cycling ban at that point on the hiking trail.

Whoever laid out the barbed wire pieces is now the subject of the investigation. In response to OÖN’s request, the police confirmed a complaint in this regard and, after recording the facts, forwarded the matter to the public prosecutor’s office.
