Activision blames WWII for Call of Duty Vanguard failures

In a report issued to its investors, Activision Blizzard said it was disappointed with the commercial performance of Call of Duty: Vanguard, despite it being the best-selling video game in 2021.

In this report, it is Activision Blizzard’s opinion that the game underperformed according to their expectations as the WWII context did not “resonate” with players. It also mentions a lack of innovation in gameplay.

For my part, I had appreciated the diversity of the solo campaign with its various protagonists and different moments and settings of the 2nd World War, but it is true that the game did not innovate anything in terms of playability. Check out my review of the single-player campaign here.

That said, Activision Blizzard’s “failures” probably have more to do with the bad press they’re getting. due to toxic culture and poor working conditions under investigation.

Moreover, Activision Blizzard has just announced that the Call of Duty which will be released in 2022 brings us back to the modern era with Modern Warfare 2, developed by Infinity Ward:
