(CNN) — Adam Levine has broken his silence following accusations that he cheated on his wife Behati Prinsloo and that he wanted to name his son after his alleged mistress.
“There’s a lot of talk about me right now and I want to clear it up,” the Maroon 5 frontman wrote in a statement he posted to the stories of his verified Instagram account.
“I lacked good judgment to talk to someone other than my wife in ANY flirtatious way,” Levine wrote. “I didn’t have an affair, however I did cross the line during an unfortunate period of my life,” she added.
Levine sent this message after Instagram model Sumner Stroh went viral with a TikTok video in which she claimed she dated the singer for about a year, and in which she shared Instagram messages that she said were from Levine and appeared to be linked to her verified account.
“At the time, I was young, naive and frankly I feel abused,” Stroh said.
She said Levine approached her to ask her for something after things were over.
“He said, ‘Okay, serious question. I’m going to have another baby and if it’s [un] kid, I really want to call him Sumner,'” Stroh said, reading the supposed message aloud. “Are you okay with that? It’s VERY serious.”
Levine and his wife, who have been together for eight years, recently revealed that they are expecting their third child.
“At certain points it became inappropriate. I addressed it and took proactive steps to remedy it with my family,” Levine wrote in her statement.
“My wife and family are all that matters to me in this world. Being naive and stupid enough to risk the only thing that really matters to me was the biggest mistake I could make,” he continued.
“I will never do it again. I take full responsibility. We will get through this. And we will get through this together.”
This Monday, Stroh posted another video to share some things he wished he had said in his first video. Among them, how “regretful” she feels and how she decided to go public because a friend was trying to sell his account to a tabloid.
