Addictive practices at work: understanding and preventing

The consumption of psychoactive substances (alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, psychotropic drugs, etc.) is a major public health problem and also concerns the world of work, regardless of the sector of activity or the workstation. These uses, occasional or repeated, constitute a risk for the health and safety of workers. Also, this brochure aims to provide elements to understand the mechanism of addictive practices and their impact, as well as the principles for implementing preventive actions.

Created in 1947, INRS is an association under the 1901 law. It is managed by a joint Board of Directors made up of representatives of employers’ and employees’ organisations. As a general occupational health and safety organization, INRS works in conjunction with other institutional players in the prevention of occupational risks. It offers tools and services to companies and the 18 million employees covered by the general social security scheme.
