Additional mechanisms revealed by ministers to provide compensation to Al-Warraq Island residents

The Prime Minister of Egypt, Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, chaired a meeting on Monday, April 10, 2023, to oversee the development of the urban community on Al-Warraq Island. Dr. Assem Al-Jazzar, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Major General Hisham Amna, the Minister of Local Development, Major General Ahmed Rashid, the Governor of Giza, and other officials attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Dr. Madbouly affirmed his commitment to ensure that the island’s residents receive fair compensation. The Minister of Housing suggested providing alternative lands in cities like New October and October Gardens, as well as alternative housing units in new cities and the Imbaba airport land project.

Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, held a meeting today; To follow up efforts to develop the urban community of Al-Warraq Island; In the presence of Dr. Assem Al-Jazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, Major General Ahmed Rashid, Governor of Giza, Major General Ahmed Hisham Fadel, Assistant Advisor to the President of the Republic for Urban Planning, Major General Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, Director of Giza Security, and Engineer Abdel Muttalib Mamdouh , Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority, Eng. Mohamed El-Sayed, Assistant Minister of Local Development for Planning, Eng. Osama Shawky, Head of the New Warraq Development Agency, and officials of the ministries and concerned authorities.

At the outset of the meeting, the Prime Minister said: “We are keen on periodic follow-up of the position of developing the urban community “Al-Warraq Island”, which is being developed by the Ministry of Housing.

Dr. Mustafa Madbouly affirmed his keenness to ensure that the people of the island receive appropriate consensual compensation, whether from alternative units, financial compensation or otherwise.

During the meeting, the Minister of Housing indicated that, in addition to the previous compensation mechanisms, it was agreed at the meeting of the Board of Directors of the New Urban Communities Authority to provide alternative lands in the cities of “New October” and “October Gardens” instead of small plots of land on the island. A number of alternative housing units in several new cities, and in the airport land project in Imbaba.​
