Addressing HIV/AIDS in the Ryazan Region: Statistics, Prevention, and Support

As of November 1, 2023, 5,963 people with HIV were registered in the Ryazan region, and 2,268 people died from the infection. The head of the regional Rospotrebnadzor, Larisa Saraeva, spoke about this at a round table dedicated to AIDS Day, reports

According to Saraeva, the Ryazan region is among the Russian territories with an average level of AIDS incidence.

Over the 10 months of this year, 167 people infected with AIDS were identified in the region, which is 4.6% less than the same period last year.

It is noted that the bulk of HIV carriers among Ryazan residents are 30-49 year old unemployed people, more than 60% of them are men. The main route of transmission is sexual, accounting for about 80% of all cases. In 14% of cases, people become infected through drug use.
