Underwater Imaging Takes Centre Stage
Archyde.com took a closer look at some of the key players showcasing their latest underwater imaging gear at ADEX:
Backscatter: The U.S.-based retailer and manufacturer, Backscatter, focused on its own line of lighting products, optics, housings, and accessories.
Becca Boring, Operations Manager for Backscatter, highlighted a GoPro rig built around the company’s Wide Double Handle and tray with Arch. The rig featured Backscatter’s Sharp Wide Lens Pro Kit, which includes a wide-angle wet lens and a GoPro mount base with a rapid-release system. This setup can also be used with Backscatter’s MacroMate Mini by adding a lens adapter.

Backscatter also showcased its popular Mini Flash 2 (MF-2) and Hybrid Flash (HF-1) strobes, along with their new excitation filters for fluorescence photography and video. The filters allow photographers and videographers to capture the vibrant colors of fluorescing marine life, creating stunning images and videos. The Hybrid Flash, when equipped with the new excitation filter, produces a blue light capable of making various subjects fluoresce. Users then need a yellow barrier filter, like the Backscatter FLIP barrier filter for GoPro, in front of their lens to capture the fluorescence effect.
