Norwegian Cruise Line is aligning Hawaiian cruises with Pride of America

After the devastating wildfires on the Hawaiian island of Maui, Norwegian Cruise Line’s Pride of America Hawaiian cruises have had to be adjusted. The changes will initially apply to travel on the three cruises up to and including departure on August 26, 2023. The port of Kahului, Maui will be removed from the itinerary to avoid further straining local resources on the island of Maui, according to Norwegian Cruise Line.

As a replacement for Kahului, the Pride of America cruise ship will be in the Port of Hilo on the Big Island for two days each of the next cruises. The cruise therefore leads from the departure and destination port of Honolulu on the island of Oahu directly to the Big Island. After the overnight in Hilo, the Hawaii cruise continues with the ports of Kona on the Big Island, Nawiliwili on Kauai and a scenic drive along the Napali Coast. The Pride of America is the only ocean cruise ship flying the US flag and can therefore be used on Hawaiian cruises all year round.

In a statement regarding the itinerary changes as a result of the wildfires, Norwegian Cruise Line wrote: “We are deeply saddened to hear about the wildfires […]. We have a very special relationship with the people and islands of Hawaii as we cruise the beautiful state year round. It is a magical destination that is highly valued by our guests for its natural beauty, culture and unparalleled experiences.”

During the forest fires on the island of Maui, the island’s capital Lahaina was extensively destroyed, more than 90 people died and numerous buildings burned down completely.
