2024-01-15 23:12:43

January 14, 2024 (local time) – Adobe has released V1.6, the first release of the year for Substance 3D Modeler.

New feature highlights

This release focuses on improvements and fixes for recently introduced features, such as materials and surface tools updated from V1.5. Additionally, a new snake hook mode has been added to the warp tool.

New snakehook mode for warp tools

Two modes have been added to the Warp tool.

When Single mode is on, the Warp tool works as before, but when Single mode is off, the Warp tool is applied continuously as you drag the cursor.

When single mode is off, you can distort the clay’s surface to create organic effects, or drag it away from the surface to create long tendrils. This snake hook action is perfect for blocking things like tree branches and tentacles.

Other updates

  • Improved Buildup tool: Buildup now defaults to free placement in VR. Free placement buildup tools now respect brush rotation. Additionally, textures in the Buildup tool now use triplanar mapping to avoid artifacts.
  • Improved behavior of retopology progress bar when exporting.
  • Improved selection behavior after importing or pasting objects.
  • Improved copy/paste of objects with materials: Materials are now included in copy and paste, so you can copy materials between two open scenes or paste and delete objects with them You can recover lost materials.
  • Importing a scene now also imports the scene’s materials.
  • Added checkboxes to the UI system. These are now available as future interface elements.

known bugs

There is a known bug where importing a mesh without vertex colors and materials causes the vertex colors to be lost on import and appear as a gray mesh. This will be fixed in the next release of Modeler.
