Adrenal glands: why are they important for our health?

The adrenal glands are two small glands that play a particular role an essential role in controlling blood pressure and in the synthesis of a vital hormone: cortisol. The point with Dr Charlotte, referring doctor in “La Grande Forme”.

The adrenal glands are two small glands located above the kidneys. They are pyramidal in shape and truly cap the kidneys, it is even said that on the right, it looks like a policeman’s hat, explains Dr. Charlotte, general practitioner.

These glands are important because they are notably responsible for managing stress via the catecholamine and corticosteroid hormones that they secrete into the blood. And also what is called hydrosodic homeostasis, that is to say the balance of salts in the blood.

The adrenal glands are controlled in part by the brain which sends information to the adrenals according to the needs of the body. For example, in a stressful situation, the brain will send information to the adrenal glands asking them to secrete more hormones to prepare the body for this situation.
