Berlin – The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the state of Saxony-Anhalt has classified the AfD in the eastern state as “certainly right-wing extremist”. The head of the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Jochen Hollmann, confirmed this on Tuesday when asked. In January 2021, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified the AfD state association as a suspected case. After that, the evidence for a classification increased. “The classification that has now been made as a confirmed right-wing extremist effort is the legal consequence,” he said. According to an Insa survey last month, the AfD is the strongest party in Saxony-Anhalt with 33 percent.
