More Affordable Housing Planned for East Hollywood
Thrive Living,the developer behind a Costco-anchored apartment complex in Baldwin Hills,has unveiled plans for another affordable housing project,this time in East Hollywood. The development, located at 1141 N.Vermont Avenue, would bring 290 new apartments to a site north of the Vermont/Santa Monica Metro station. Renderings from architecture firm Rios showcases a contemporary design for the seven-story building.

As an Executive Directive 1 project, all 290 units are designated for low- and moderate-income households. Thrive is planning 232 low-income units and 58 moderate-income units, adding to the growing number of affordable housing options in the area. This project joins other developments reshaping the blocks surrounding Vermont/Santa Monica Station, including an affordable housing complex by LTSC adjacent to the station plaza and a 177-unit mixed-income development a block east.
Thrive living continues to expand its footprint in Los Angeles, with additional projects underway in Chinatown and Baldwin Hills. Its commitment to modular construction promises efficient and cost-effective development, while also contributing to los Angeles’ housing goals.

**Host:** Let’s talk about this new development. Can you tell our viewers a bit about what Thrive Living is planning for 1141 N. Vermont Avenue?
**Alex Reed:** Absolutely.We’re excited about this project. It will be a seven-story building with 290 new apartments, strategically located just north of the vermont/Santa Monica Metro station. This location provides excellent accessibility for residents and aligns with our mission of building transit-oriented, affordable housing.
**Host:** 290 apartments is a important contribution to the area’s housing supply. Can you give us an idea of what the affordability breakdown will look like for these units?
**Alex Reed:** We are committed to ensuring a diverse range of incomes is represented within the building. The specific affordability levels will be persistent in collaboration with the city, but our aim is to offer a mix of units accessible to low-, moderate-, and middle-income families.
**Host:** Thrive Living previously developed a Costco-anchored apartment complex in Baldwin Hills. What lessons learned from that project are you applying to this new development in East Hollywood?
**Alex Reed:** The Baldwin Hills project was a great success in demonstrating the viability of combining affordable housing with essential retail spaces. We learned a lot about community engagement and the importance of incorporating resident feedback into the design process. These lessons will definitely inform our approach in East Hollywood.
**Host:** Many Angelenos are experiencing a housing affordability crisis. How do you see projects like this one contributing to the solution?
**Alex Reed:** We believe that everyone deserves access to safe, quality housing, regardless of their income.By building more affordable units in desirable locations like East Hollywood,we hope to make a tangible difference in addressing the city’s housing challenges. These developments not only provide homes but also support economic growth and vibrant, diverse communities.

**Alex Reed:** Rios has created a truly impressive contemporary design for this project.
