Africa! Africa: A Circus Spectacle Celebrating 20 Years of Success

The circus spectacle “Africa! Africa” - invented and found by André Heller in 2005 – is still celebrating great success almost 20 years later: of course with a new program and new protagonists, the show is fresh as ever, like the more than 40 artists and artists demonstrated at the Vienna premiere in the white tent palace. The audience couldn’t help but be amazed by many of the daring numbers – even without Heller’s framework for the colorful images of the new production.

Graceful power poles tower human pyramids up to just below the roof of the tent, a lady floats majestically through the arena suspended only by her hair, flying basketball players “dunk” from all heights almost every second, an acrobat balances on a narrow board what feels like a dozen rolls on top of each other and an artist juggles two handfuls of balls (so that it doesn’t get too easy, with a blindfold over his eyes). A very special highlight: the two Rhamadami Brothers from Tanzania, who also made it to the finals of “America’s Got Talent” – no wonder: one brother “stands” completely freely with his head on the other’s head while the latter not only goes up a flight of stairs, but also climbs up between two free-standing ladders at the end…

More than a solid basis for the hustle and bustle and lively events in and around the ring is a very special “circus orchestra”: a professional band around the bassist Francky Moulet, which, in addition to traditionals, also offers many Afro hits by Youssou N’Dours “7 Seconds” to the Manu Dibango classic “Soul Mokassa” to Miriam Makeba’s “Bata Bata” – and all in completely confident quality.

“Africa! Africa!” is now stopping in Vienna (Neu-Marx) until February 18th. Then the shiny white giant tent and the artists move to Salzburg, where the show can be admired in the exhibition center from February 23rd to March 3rd.
