After her visit to Taiwan, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi left for South Korea on Wednesday.
Pelosi had earlier met human rights activists in Taipei, including former leader of the China Democracy Movement Rickish Davlet, known as Wu’er Kaix, which was violently suppressed in 1989. Pelosi met with former Hong Kong bookseller Lam Wing-ki and social activist Lee Ming Shi, both of whom were imprisoned in China, in Jingmei Human Rights and Culture Park in southern Taiwan. Lee had returned to Taiwan from China after serving a five-year prison sentence for “subverting the country’s authority”.
The meeting, which was attended by other human rights representatives, focused on how to promote human rights in China and Hong Kong, especially Xinjiang.
