After five days detained, the CTE Guiteras synchronizes the National System 2024-04-14 06:19:34

After five days outside the National Electroenergetic System (SEN), CTE Antonio Guiteras, from Matanzas, returned to his usual contribution. The fault, this time, was detected in the boiler of the largest generating plant in Cuba.

The profile on the social network Facebook, of the generating unit itself, confirmed the good news on Friday afternoon. Initially, it started with a contribution of 130 MW to the SEN, a figure that gradually increased as the first hours passed after start-up.

The entry of Guiteras automatically translated into a decrease in blackouts during peak hours on Friday, April 12. At the beginning of that day, a generation deficit of more than 500 MW was estimated for the night, especially. When the contribution of said CTE began, many circuits on the Island were closed again, fortunately for residential customers.

Prolonged breakdown

Last Monday, the Cuban Electrical Union (UNE) announced that Guiteras would stop until Wednesday, April 10 for maintenance. However, the work was extended for two more days. The note published then stated that the plant had defects in the boiler.

This is not the first nor will it be the last time this happens. In fact, the country’s main thermal unit has been showing some instability in its operation for several months. The main cause is the obsolescence of its equipment and parts.

On March 28, another breakdown partially removed Guiteras from the SEN. Then, its capacity was limited to 135 MW due to problems with the feed pumps. Said CTE had synchronized with the national system just the previous week, after more than 15 days in maintenance. In less than 24 hours he suffered a new breakdown.

A few hours later the plant came into operation after the stoppage to solve some defects and adjustments to the main equipment.
