This Wednesday, in the VRT program “Vrede op Aarde”, the Antwerp defender gave his opinion on the future of the Belgian selection and in particular the next coach. And like Romelu Lukakuthe former Tottenham man thinks Thierry Henry is the best choice to replace Roberto Martinez.
”He has won in his career everything that is possible to win”and began Alderweireld, “in addition, he knows the team and that is very important.” Thierry Henry knows the core of the Devils perfectly since he was Martinez’s assistant for more than four years, spread over two periods (August 2016-October 2018 and since May 2021).
For Alderweireld, not everything must change in the core of the Red Devils: “I understand the argument that we need a rejuvenation, but we also have to see where we come from. In this regard, Henry would be the ultimate solution.”
But if the VRT asked the defender for his opinion, the latter was not consulted by the federation in the choice of the new coach. “I think they lost my phone number”quipped Alderweireld about it.
Anyway, the Antwerp player is the second player who supports Thierry Henry, obviously very popular in the Red Devils locker room. This could be decisive in the choice of the future coach.
