After the flood washed away the road in Pagėgii, local politicians had suspicions about who needed the asphalt

During the meeting held on Thursday, two issues regarding road maintenance in the municipality were to be discussed. One issue – regarding the approval of the priority order of sections of gravel roads to be asphalted – was postponed by the consensus of the politicians. However, the question of the priority list for the repair of roads and streets of local significance caused a lot of passion.

One by one, councilors complained about how the priority lists were drawn up as to which road should be maintained. An absurd story in Natkiškii, when a road to the forest was built, is also remembered.

“It is not clear who gives priority to whom, it is not clear. Or political parties? Because those who were supposed to be paved ended up further away. It cannot be like this,” said council member Edgaras Kuturys, representative of the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union.

The municipality of Pagėgiai, which declared a state of emergency due to a washed-out road, asked the Directorate of Motorways of Lithuania what priorities determined that this particular road was being maintained. At that time, the residents of the neighboring homesteads say that the former stone road was not so bad.
