The looting that followed the death of Nahel, killed by a policeman in Nanterre, attracted the attention of online sales platforms. The latter (Leboncoin, Vinted, etc.) say they observe suspicious ads carefully and work closely with the police to intercept possible resellers.

In the days that followed the death of Nahel, killed by a policeman in Nanterre, the same images turned on a loop. Those of thousands of rioters tormenting supermarkets, shoe stores, clothing stores and even car dealerships. While, for two nights, calm seems to be gradually returning, now comes the time to draw the conclusions and the consequences of this generalized chaos.

One of them could directly concern the online sales platforms Vinted and Leboncoin. The latter say they are doubling their vigilance in the face of new announcements which could well come from looters seeking to resell the stolen goods. According Provence, the phenomenon is already underway. The regional daily reports that many ads have already been swarming on the various sites for several days. Their profile is easily recognizable: few items for sale, most of the time without description, and no evaluation.

“No Compromise”

Hence the heightened vigilance exercised by the platforms concerned. Asked by BFM TV, Leboncoin ensures that “no compromise” will be made “on the quality of the control of its announcements”. “Our algorithms are configured in such a way that suspicious user behavior, whether on account creation or on ads, is limited”, continues the site, which says it is carefully observing “new malicious behavior” which is multiplying. .

The same goes for Vinted, which reminds BFMTV that it is strictly forbidden to sell stolen items and calls on all users to report any ads they deem suspicious. The two platforms also ensure that they are available to the authorities in order to intercept any resellers. “We work closely with the police when they ask us for information on potential cases of this type”, guarantees Vinted.
