A year after giving the green light for the export of Ukrainian cereals to the Black Sea, through Turkey, Russia opposed son veto the extension of the “grain agreement”. Despite attempts by the United Nations to dissuade Moscow, “the Black Sea agreement has de facto come to an end”, affirmed Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, on Monday 17 July.

Initiated by the UN and Turkey, the initiative on cereals of the Black Sea has facilitated the transport of 32 million tonnes of foodstuffs from three Ukrainian ports to 45 countries since July 2022. Objectives: to ensure the supply of importing countries and limit the surge in prices on international markets in the aftermath of the war in Ukraine.
