After years, Apple ID may change name with iOS 18

Second sources heard by MacRumorsApple would be considering renaming the ID Apple for “Apple Account” (or “Apple Account”, in free translation). As we know, the service has existed for over ten years and facilitates access to Maçã’s tools.

Also according to the website, the proposed change to the new name should be implemented later this year, possibly in alignment with the launch of iOS 18 (codenamed “Crystal”) and macOS 15 (codename “Glow”).

As rebranding, system apps and the Apple website must reflect the new nomenclature. Although references to “Apple account” are already present in certain contextsthe initiative aims to standardize terminology across all platforms.

The reasons behind all this are still uncertain. The company, however, usually tests different nomenclatures before launching new products — evidenced by the various names used internally for the Vision Pro system (“realityOS”, “xrOS” and visionOS).

Therefore, it is possible that the choice of name “Apple Account” may still change. Obviously, Apple has not yet commented on the matter publicly — but we, of course, will continue to keep an eye on any news!
