Agreement Reached: Booking and Moroccan Hoteliers Find Common Ground for Commission Payments

Common ground was finally found between the booking platform Booking and Moroccan hoteliers, grouped within the National Federation of the Hotel Industry (FNIH). After marathon meetings and negotiations, the two parties have finally agreed on an agreement that preserves the interests of Moroccan operators.

“Following the meeting held with representatives of Booking on August 1, 2023 and pending the completion of the steps, in progress, undertaken by this central office for the opening of a bank account in Morocco, the platform has agreed to take charge the commission transfer costs, in particular the costs of bank transfer, postage, as well as the costs of Swift transfers”, confides Lahcen Zelmat, president of the National Federation of the Hotel Industry (FNIH).

Recall that Booking had sent a letter last month to Moroccan tourist accommodation establishments, partners, informing them of the decision to pay commissions in foreign currency and not in dirhams. A unilateral decision which raised a huge outcry, because, in addition to paying significant commissions, hoteliers had to bear an additional cost of 10% in respect of withholding tax.
