Ahuntsic-Cartierville: two buildings affected by a fire

Several homes were engulfed in flames on Saturday evening following a blaze broke out between two buildings in the borough of Ahuntsic-Cartierville, in Montreal.

The firefighters received the alert shortly following 6 p.m. for the fire which affected 5305 and 5325, rue Dudemaine, near the intersection with avenue Robert-Giffard.

The fire started in the parking lot between the two buildings, where there was a structure put in place for construction work, said Alain Laflamme, fire prevention section chief of the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM).

Buildings with 17 apartments each were heavily damaged, with one building being completely hit while the other was hit in eight residences.

No injuries were reported, it was said.

Nearly 150 firefighters and 52 vehicles rushed to the scene to try to fight the blaze.

A bus from the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) was also sent to the site.
