AI Town: An Open Source Garden Simulator with Generative AI-powered Residents

2023-08-31 05:00:11

With the development of generative AI, it has become possible to easily and automatically generate sentences or images without requiring humans to write sentences or draw pictures from scratch. AI Town is being developed as an open source as a garden simulator with a 2D RPGQ-like appearance, such that residents with various personalities move at will by AI and automatically talk or communicate. AI Town has a demo site open to the public. Villagers move around automatically and chat with other villagers at will. When you click on a resident, the resident’s name and personality are displayed on the right. If you scroll down to the right, you’ll also see a log of conversations you’ve had with other villagers. You can move the displayed part by dragging the map, and you can look into the hearts and conversations of various residents as if you were a god. AI Town is being developed with the goal of providing a platform with a solid foundation in view of scalability beyond simply working happily, and it is said that it was developed inspired by the thesis (Generative Agents: Interactive Simulacra of Human Behavior). As a secondary goal, since many AI-related simulators are coded in Python, it is decided that JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks can be used in AI Town. The source code is publicly available on Github. Related information can be found here.
