AIK overrun at home – Hammarby took the first victory in the cup

The rain absolutely poured down on Skytteholm’s IP when AIK took on Hammarby in the second round of the Swedish Cup.

Before the match, the home team led the group after a victory against Kif Örebro in the cup premiere. Hammarby had a point after a cross against Djurgården. A victory for AIK would mean that last year’s champion Hammarby was eliminated from the Swedish Cup.

AIK started relatively strong against Hammarby. They won several duels and built up some attacks. But that didn’t lead to very many finishes on goal.

In the first 20 minutes, neither team had any major advantage. But with barely a quarter of an hour played, it was the visitors who took the lead. The new Norwegian acquisition Julie Blakstad scored 1-0.

In the second half of the second half, Blakstad had another scoring chance when she cut in from outside. But the ball went wide.

AIK had difficulty keeping up when Hammarby picked up the pace, but it was far from total Hammarby dominance. The home team often won the ball back and found nice attacking combinations. Among other things, Adelisa Grabus had a great situation, where the ball went just outside the left post.

In overtime in the first half, another Norwegian new acquisition in Hammarby was able to extend the lead. Anna Jøsendal headed in 2-0 before the referee blew the half.

When the second half was about to start, the home team lit several flares and Skytteholm was filled with smoke. For a while the smoke was so dense that it was not possible to see the players who had lined up on the pitch. But as soon as the worst was over, the second half could start.

Ten minutes into the second, the third came from Hammarby through Julie Blakstad and in the 70th minute Thea Sørbo lifted the ball over Serina Backmark and secured 4-0.

With ten minutes left in regular time, Martin Sjögren replaced striker Ellen Wangerheim. She has not been seen at all during the pre-season due to a foot injury.

There were only five minutes left in the match when AIK faced a really dangerous attack. The ball was almost on the goal line when Anna Tamminen got both hands on it.

Blakstad had a chance to become a hat-trick scorer when she got the chance from the penalty spot right at the end but missed and the match ended 4-0.
