Air Austral Suspends Flights to Seychelles and Faces Fleet Grounding – Latest Updates

2024-02-14 11:27:08

Want to fly to the heavenly beaches of the Seychelles? You will have to find another option from Reunion, since Air Austral is suspending its flights to Mahé. The regional company is encountering new difficulties with its aircraft. Half the fleet is grounded.

On the airline’s website, it is possible to try to make a reservation to Mahé, flights are offered twice a week. But these attempts systematically end in failure, regardless of the targeted period. An internal source confirms that ticket sales to Seychelles are suspended.

The airline’s employees assure that they are not aware of the origin of this turbulence, even if the financial difficulties encountered by the company are real. They were accentuated by a series of breakdowns on the fleet. According to our information, there are only 4 aircraft remaining in service out of the 8 aircraft operated.

This lack of resources might also compromise flights to two Malagasy cities, Tuléar and Fort Dauphin.
As a reminder, the Air Austral company was saved at the beginning of 2023, thanks to the assistance of European aid (137 million euros granted by Brussels) and the entry into the capital of private investors (30 million euros).

A Works Social Committee will take place tomorrow, Thursday February 15. An expert report will be presented there on the reorganization of the regional company’s services.
