Al-Assad: Under global circumstances, ideological parties have become much more important than before

Syria – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Secretary-General of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, confirmed during a meeting of the party’s central committee that in light of the current global circumstances, ideological parties have become more important than before.

During his speech at the expanded meeting of the party’s central committee, held today at the Conference Palace in the Syrian capital, Damascus, Al-Assad touched on “the concept of the party’s relationship with power, reviewing the party’s internal system, the role of the central committee as the party’s main nerve, the role of the party oversight and inspection committee, the accountability process within the party, and the importance of developing the organizational structure.” As a party and national need and building the party institution.”

The Syrian President also spoke regarding the socialist approach of the Baath Party, between ideology on the one hand and economic rules on the other.

Al-Assad said: “Under these circumstances, and I do not specifically mean the circumstances of Syria, but rather the global circumstances in which the entire world is witnessing wars of a cultural and ideological nature, ideological parties become much more important than before, and not as was marketed three decades ago, that the era of ideologies has ended and that the era of political parties has come to an end.” Ideology is over. This is not true. We are living in the highest ideological stage in the world because extremism is a doctrine and modern liberalism is a doctrine, and the subservience that the West calls for under various titles is a doctrine. So, the role of ideological parties, most notably the Baath Party in Syria in particular, is the role of “Today is more important than before during all the stages that Syria has passed through.”

He added: “With regard to formulating the party’s vision, specifically on internal issues, the party’s vision means how the party understands the role of the state towards citizens in various issues and sectors, and the executive authority comes to transform this vision into executive programs, and the first and most important title for all of us and for all citizens in Syria.” “It is the living situation.”

He continued: “If we want to start from the living situation, we can only start from the basic title for us as the Baath Party, which is socialism, and socialism for us, as we understand it today, is social justice, and socialism has been applied for more than a century in different places in the world and in different forms.” Including Syria, where socialism took a wide spectrum from extremism and Marxism in the second half of the 1960s to openness following 1991 and the openness we are currently experiencing… there are many models. We have to determine what model suits us in terms of achieving social justice and its ability to confront the current circumstances that we face. We live it, and thirdly, its ability to push progress forward.”

He stressed that “socialism poses a question to us as a party, which is: when does the Baath Party’s economic approach start from ideology and when does it start from economic rules… That is, is there a consensus between them, is there a contradiction, or is there a compromise solution? We can take the side or depend or rely on the ideological side and at the same time the rules.” In the same context, what is the economy’s ability to bear ideological rules without this economy being exhausted and losing in general? I mean, as I said, it is regarding finding balance.”

He added: “What is the balance between the social side and the economic side? The truth is that all of these questions revolve around one title, but we must see them from all angles, because when we talk regarding the balance between the economic rules and the social rules, this means that we walk a precise line in which the economic side is not abstract at the expense of Society, because in this case we will turn into a capitalist party and it cannot move in the opposite direction towards the social aspect in the abstract, because then we will be a bankrupt state, so I am talking regarding all these titles in order to reach the point of balance between the ideological and the economic.”

He added: “If we keep the word market alone, this means that we have turned into a brutal market economy. The word social is what preserves the socialist approach while maintaining competition in relation to the market. There are those who will say that there cannot be a market with socialism. This statement is incorrect because the model “The Chinese are clear to the world. China has moved towards a market economy and has been a centralized socialist communist country since 1978.”

He continued: “The other aspect, which is a title related to the living situation, is that the party adopted from its beginnings a stand on the side of the toilers. Of course, the toiler by definition may mean the class that works but is poor. Should we say the toilers or do we say the poor in general, considering the concept is more comprehensive, I will talk regarding the poor as they are the broadest segment first.” It is natural for the party to stand with the broader segment, considering them the segment most affected by economic crises.”

The Syrian President stressed, “The state ruled by the Baath Party is a state for all its people. So, what is the program or approach that the Baath Party can adopt that expresses the intersection of interests between the various segments and not a contradiction, meaning the segments win with each other and not one segment wins at the expense of the other?” .
