The head of the Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, confirmed the withdrawal of the military institution from the political process in the country, stressing at the same time the need for political forces to agree in order to stabilize the transitional period.
“We affirm the withdrawal of the military institution from the political process, and that its work is limited to issues of national security and defense,” Al-Burhan said during a meeting with the European Union envoy to the Horn of Africa.
He demanded the necessity of achieving consensus between the political forces in the country in order to stabilize the transitional period.
A few days ago, the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council confirmed that he will not run in the upcoming elections.
