French club Lille signed English midfielder Ross Barkley, who became a free player following the end of his contract with Chelsea this summer, and presented him to his fans before the match with Monaco on Sunday in the local league competitions.

“Midfielder Ross Barkley, 28, arrives on a free transfer to Nice, following four and a half years at Chelsea,” a statement on the club’s official website read.

The England international started his career at Everton in 2010 and spent eight seasons with them (including two on loan to Sheffield and Leeds United) before moving to Chelsea in early 2018.

However, he was unable to impose himself in the London club’s squad, and during four and a half seasons with the London team in the English Premier League only 58 games, knowing that he spent the 2020-2021 season on loan at Aston Villa.

With Chelsea, Barkley won the FA Cup 2018, the European League “European League” 2019 and the Club World Cup 2021.
