Al-Sisi and the head of Russian intelligence discuss the Gaza crisis and regional tensions

Egypt – Yesterday, Tuesday, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held discussions with the head of Russian Foreign Intelligence, Sergei Naryshkin, which dealt with the issues of the Gaza Strip and regional tensions.

In the Egyptian capital, Cairo, Sisi received Naryshkin and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of the head of Egyptian General Intelligence, Major General Abbas Kamel, according to a statement by the Egyptian presidency.

Egyptian presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said in the statement, “The meeting discussed developments in the regional situation, most notably ways to achieve stability in the Middle East in light of the crisis in the Gaza Strip.”

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, neighboring Egypt, leaving more than 100,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, and famine and massive destruction, according to Palestinian and UN data.

Fahmy explained that the meeting “confirmed Egypt’s vision of the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the provision of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities.”

He stressed “the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue, and establishing the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, ensuring peace and stability in the Middle East.”

Israel continues the war on Gaza despite the Security Council issuing an immediate ceasefire resolution, and despite its first appearance before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”

The meeting also discussed “the escalation of regional tension that the region is witnessing, in addition to a number of African issues, anti-terrorism files, and developments in the international situation, especially in Ukraine and Afghanistan,” according to the spokesman.

The Egyptian-Russian discussions come 3 days after Iran launched a missile and drone attack on Israel. In response to a missile attack targeting the Iranian diplomatic mission in Damascus in early April.
