Al-Sudani: We did not receive reports of missiles or drones being launched from Iraq during Iran’s attack on Israel

United States – Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani said yesterday, Tuesday, that Baghdad had not received any reports or indications of the launching of missiles or drones from Iraq during the Iranian attack on Israel.

Al-Sudani added: “Our position is clear not to allow Iraq to be thrown into the arena of conflict, and we are committed to this.”

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani recently visited Washington, where he met with US President Joe Biden and discussed the strategic framework agreement between the two countries with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

Joe Biden received the Iraqi Prime Minister at the White House on Monday.

Before that, Al-Sudani met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, with whom he discussed “efforts to lay the foundations for long-term joint relations, and activate the strategic framework agreement and the Supreme Joint Coordination Committee between the two countries,” according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Office.

The statement added that the two sides also discussed “a number of economic aspects and investment opportunities for American companies, especially in the fields of energy, and the possibility of expanding the partnership with the Iraqi private sector in areas important to the Iraqi market, and cooperation at various levels that are in the interest of the two countries.”

Al-Sudani pointed out “the bilateral understanding on many issues, stressing that the strategic framework agreement represents a road map for developing future relations between Iraq and the United States.”

The two sides also discussed the situation in the region and in the Gaza Strip, where Al-Sudani reiterated “Iraq’s clear position on the aggression, stressing the joint legal and moral responsibility for protecting defenseless civilians, and the importance of supporting efforts seeking to prevent the expansion of the conflict, and preventing more casualties among the ranks of the Palestinian people.” .

Earlier, Israeli officials reported that “the launching of drones towards Israel was part of the Iranian response to the targeting of the consulate in Damascus, not only from Iran, but from other countries as well.”

American officials expected that the Israeli response to the Iranian attack would be “limited in scope” and would target Iranian forces outside Iran and Tehran’s agents in the region.
