Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Alaa, son of former Egyptian President Mohamed Hosni Mubarak, responded to a tweet claiming that his brother, Gamal Mubarak, was prevented from running in the presidential elections until 2030.

And the tweet, which was later deleted, stated: “The stupid people who demand Gamal Mubarak’s candidacy for the presidency, and the stupider ones who oppose and attack Gamal Mubarak.

Alaa responded to the tweet, saying with a comment: “I know who is the beast who told you this information is 2030…incorrect information, sorry.”

For his part, the Egyptian opposition politician and former presidential candidate residing outside Egypt, Ayman Nour, commented on the tweet, and Alaa Mubarak responded with a lengthy 11-point tweet.

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian presidential elections will be held in 2024, after the House of Representatives approved a legislative amendment to extend President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s stay in office until next year, while allowing him to run for a new term of 6 years.
