Alain Berset forced to land on a private flight

Last week, Federal Councilor Alain Berset was forced to land by French air police while flying in a single-engine sports plane. Shortly following, the pilot was able to continue his flight between two French aerodromes.

This was announced by the Federal Department of the Interior (DFI) on Tuesday. On July 5, Mr. Berset made a private flight. Since obtaining his pilot’s license in 2009, the Socialist Federal Councilor occasionally rents a single-engine aircraft, it is specified.

According to the indications of his department, the Friborg resident was alone on board. As he had misinterpreted the indications from air traffic control at the start of the flight, the air police intervened. The DFI did not provide detailed information on this subject.

After an identity check on the ground and an exchange on the facts, Berset was able to resume his flight aboard the plane he had rented, we learned. To the knowledge of the department, ‘no legal proceedings have been opened’.
