Alberto Fujimori was hospitalized after a decompensation

The former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) was hospitalized this Sunday in a clinic for Lima after suffering a decompensation in the prison where he is serving 25 years in prison for crimes against humanity, official sources reported.

Fujimori presented the “decompensation box” during the dawn Sunday, for which he was transferred to the Social Security hospital in the Ate-Vitarte district, in the east of Lima and close to his prison, detailed the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE).

The former president is serving a sentence handed down in 2009 for the killings of Barrios Altos and La Cantutawhich caused the death of 25 people, in total, as well as the kidnapping of a journalist and a businessman after the “self-coup” of 1992.

On April 8, the Inter-American Court of Human rights (CourtHR) ordered the Peruvian State to refrain from complying with a resolution of the constitutional Court (TC) that restored the pardon granted in December 2017 by the then president Peter Paul Kuczynski (2016-2018).

After knowing the decision of the international court, the opposition leader Keiko Fujimori, eldest daughter of the former president, assured that she does not lose faith that her father will be released, and described the ruling as “absolutely unfair for a sick and elderly person” to whom it causes “a lot of pain”.
