Alberto González is hospitalized and the Athletics Federation provides details of his case – 2024-02-21 17:13:33

According to information from the National Athletics Federation of Guatemala, González Mindez, originally from the Chuachalí Village, Tecpán, began suffering from bronchial ailments some time ago, which caused him to not finish the Max Tott Half Marathon that was held on Sunday, January 28.

After taking a few days off, González resumed training, but on Wednesday, February 7, he suffered from decompensation for which he was transferred to a hospital within Guatemala City where Studies will be performed to determine the reason for your discomfort.

During 2023, Alberto González was one of the most outstanding Guatemalan athletes, as he established himself in different competitions at the national and international level.

Among his most important achievements last year is first place in the half marathon of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023. In this competition, the Chimalteco set a time of 1:03:50, breaking the previous record of 1 :10:29 which was in force since the Caracas 1959 edition.

Previously, it broke Kenyan hegemony in the 2023 Cobán Half Marathon to give Guatemala its first victory in 33 years.

At the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games he won a bronze in the 10,000 meters.

However, his greatest success last year came when he confirmed his qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after achieving the necessary mark in the Valencia Marathon held in December 2023.

Due to his actions, Alberto González was recognized by Prensa Libre as its Sports Person of the Year 2023.

Statement from the Athletics Federation

Through its social networks, the Athletics Federation shared a statement regarding the case of Alberto González where it reported that the athlete has paused his preparation for the Olympic Games.

“Our athlete Alberto González is experiencing health problems, which has paused his sports preparation with a view to the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Alberto is hospitalized in a private healthcare center, where he is constantly undergoing rigorous tests to determine the medical diagnosis. As a federation we are prepared for the evolution of Alberto’s medical framework, requesting in the best way that there is no speculation about the state of health in which he is, since this can cause negative effects on his recovery, emotional state of family members and friends who are far from Alberto at the moment”, quotes the statement.
