He journalist, writer and diplomat Albino Gómez passed away this Monday March 27th at 94 years old. He excelled in several areas being a versatile and award-winning professional.
Gómez, who was born in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Flores, was a multifaceted professional: he worked for almost all the air TV channels in Argentina, on radios such as Nacional, Belgrano and El Mundo, and in numerous magazines.
He was director of the Journalism program at the University of Belgrano and also served as a diplomat before the UN, Greece, South Africa, Chile, Uruguay and fulfilled other missions on behalf of Argentina. in twenty countries. He was Argentine ambassador in Egypt, Kenya and Sweden.
In addition, he published 32 books, including a biography on Bill Clinton. In another of his facets, he even wrote tango and folklore songs, some of which were even set to music by Astor Piazzolla.
In 2018 he was distinguished with the Pena de Honor Award granted by the National Academy of Journalism “for his defense of freedom of expression.” The granting of this award had the objective of “annually celebrate and highlight the effort and creativity of those who contribute to dignifying and consolidating the mission of the press as a social and cultural institution”, reported the Academy.
